"Men for Others"
As you can tell from my Bio page, a large portion of my education was delivered by the Jesuits which has greatly influenced my core values and my view on involvement in ones community. At Gonzaga, an all boys Catholic institution, we lived by the slogan "Men for Others" and at Loyola "People for Others", we learned very early on that it was our duty and obligation to give back to the surrounding neighborhoods. As I moved on from these institutions and in to the professional world, these ideals have stuck with me and I continue to volunteer through Morgan Stanley sponsored programs. But as I have progresses through this class, I've learned volunteering, while important is simply not enough. When looking at the five key strategies for reimagination, "Fostering integrity of place" jumps out at me as an area where I can use my personal ideals and financial skills to help breed change in the Jonestown neighborhood. Whether it is helping to create clean and vibrant public spaces or promoting the neighborhoods historic roots to attract visitors, I truly believe I can help. As a resident of Fells Point and someone who intends on living in the city for many years to come, I have vested interest in the success of Baltimore and I am therefore willing to play my part.
